A teacher seeking a work permit in a country other than their home country must have their relevant documents attested. The UAE is one of the major countries in the world that enforces strict rules that must be met in no uncertain terms. If you are a foreign national looking for a teaching job in the UAE, the following rules apply to you.
The UAE has implemented a new teacher licensing system. Learn about the requirements and qualifications for becoming a teacher in the UAE.
Regardless of which country you wish to teach in, you must have your educational and other documents authenticated by the consulate or embassy of that country. A typical minimum of three documents must be attested for an aspirant teacher: a bachelor’s degree, a teaching license, and a police background check. Some countries require additional documentation, such as degree transcripts. If you intend to bring a spouse or a child, you may be required to show a marriage or birth certificate.
To work as a teacher in the UAE, the applicant must have a bachelor’s degree or a four-year university degree or higher in the required field. This rule applies to both public/government and private schools in the UAE. Other conditions are as follows:
- A criminal background check
- A UAE medical fitness certificate
- Original certificates of education
Certificates must be attested by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation and the country’s embassy in the UAE if the educator graduated from a university outside the UAE.
If you want to apply to a private school, you must first contact the school administration. The school will then forward the necessary paperwork to the Ministry of Education in the northern emirates or to the KHDA in Dubai for the necessary tests and final approval.
The Abu Dhabi Department of Education and Knowledge has dedicated public service centers in its educational offices to receive teacher applications and process appointments through Abu Dhabi-registered schools.
How Can a Document Be Verified?
As previously stated, the facts of your home country will determine the steps that must be taken and the requirements that must be met. As a general rule, the following items are required for the attestation process.
Notarization from a notary public: This must be obtained from your country of origin, which means that if you are already in the UAE, this step is best handled by a service that provides certificate attestation in Dubai.
Signature of the local government: This is done to demonstrate unequivocally that the notary public who processed your certificate is a legal authority within their authority.
Stamp from your consulate: Your consulate or embassy would need to authenticate the previous two steps with a sign and seal from people with the appropriate authority. You may be able to mail the documents to the consulate, but it is much easier to let a reputable attestation service handle this for you. Many even provide Indian consulate attestation services in Dubai.
Education professionals must be licensed.
The UAE’s ‘Education Professional license’ is required for all education professionals in the UAE. To work legally, teachers must have a teaching license.
Passing the tests designed for each targeted category in the education sector is required to obtain the license.
If the applicant fails to meet the exam criteria, the system will introduce training courses that are tailored to the level demonstrated in the exam to achieve the desired outcome.
The applicant has three opportunities to apply for the license. After failing three times, he/she can retake the test after a six-month period in which he/she can apply for and benefit from the licensing system’s training programs to ensure passing the required assessments.
After receiving your authenticated documents, you will be able to use them as legally valid certificates within the UAE, regardless of whether you completed the entire process yourself or sought assistance from an attestation service. Aspiring teachers can approach potential employers with confidence because they have the necessary documentation to prove their qualifications.
